Recruitment

Why Rush?

Being part of a Fraternity provides a tremendous amount of value. Not only does it provide a constant support system through college, additional leadership opportunities, unparalleled social experiences, and a network of accomplished Alumni, but perhaps most importantly it can lead to friendships that will long outlast your collegiate experience. Fraternity life will tap in to what social narratives fail to fully address in men, and will provide you with a family determined to reinforce and ascend your life’s meanings on an individualized scale.

The Fraternity Recruitment Process.

The University Park Interfraternity Council (UPIFC), the organization which governs fraternity conduct and events, supervises and oversees the formal rush process. The process takes place over a ten day period (in August for Fall semester and in January for Spring semester) and consists of several standardized events between potential new members (rushees) and each individual fraternity at the respective fraternity houses and at off-campus venues.

Through these multiple on- and off-site social events, the potential members and the fraternities develop a better understanding of each other and through mutual self-selection over the course of the week, both narrow down the choices available to a rushee.

At the conclusion of the process, a fraternity extends an offer to join a fraternity (a “bid”) to a rushee and, upon acceptance of the offer, the potential new member “Phikeia” (in the case of Phi Delta Theta) that he will become a member and join the fraternity.

— Sean Jackson, Rush Co-Chairman Spring 2024

At Phi Delt, I’ve found a group of diverse, motivated, involved men of high character that I’m proud to call my Brothers. I'm excited to watch the newest generation of Phi Delta Theta carry on the house's legacy.

— John "Pemberton" Perling, Rush Co-Chairman Spring 2024

Some of my favorite memories have come from the brotherhood of this fraternity. The group of diverse friends I have made for life has made me grateful for my decision to rush.

— Evan Danu, Rush Co-Chairman Spring 2024
