Alumni & Parents

Having a strong Alumni base matters.

Phi Delta Theta California Delta (USC) - Alumni Reunion

Phi Delta Theta California Delta (USC) - Alumni

At California Delta, our alumni are engaged and active participants in our Chapter members’ experiences. They help to provide mentorship, coaching, internship opportunities, and leadership advice. They volunteer their time, energy, and effort to ensure the success of the Chapter … and yes they like to reminisce on their collegiate days with Brothers who still remain some of their closest friends to this day.

Alumni Newsletters.

We take pride in our Alumni communications program and our semi-annual newsletter called the Cal Delta Spotlight. If you have an idea on topics to discuss or have a suggestion for the Alumni Spotlight, don’t hesitate to let us know.

Alumni Events.

Our Alumni-base enjoys getting together informally, and sometimes formally, throughout the year! All of the upcoming activities can be seen from this page and each event should have a point of contact to reach out to in the event that you are interested in attending or have questions. If you are not receiving emailed information regarding these events please make sure to update your alumni contact information by emailing recordsmanager@elevateims.com.

If you are coordinating an event, or would like to, please let housecorp@uscphidelt.org know! We would like to highlight it.

Alumni Directory.

We are making our Alumni Directory accessible to all Brothers. You will need a password in order to access the directory after clicking on the Alumni Directory link. If you have not already received that password please reach out to housecorp@uscphidelt.org.

The California Delta alumni have been amazingly supportive of the chapter since it was founded and, as alumni secretary, I see that the common thread that ties all our alumni together - regardless of age or life experience - is our reverence for Phi Delta Theta and the universal recognition that each member has received so much more from the fraternity than they could ever give back. Whether it’s donating resources to help with the house or with need based scholarships, helping us with business mentorship or internships, or practical advice of any type, whatsoever, the positive influence of our alumni has helped me realize how fortunate I am to be a member of this truly great brotherhood. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns (shills@usc.edu).

Parents

As a Parent, I have some questions.

Hey, we don’t blame you - our parents probably had similar questions when we joined.

Is a Fraternity just a glorified drinking club?

No. Joining Greek Life at USC involves more than just social events; it provides networking opportunities, deep-seated friendships, leadership opportunities, Alumni support and so much more! Additionally, Phi Delta Theta prides itself on being an Alcohol and Drug free property.

I’m unclear about the value that a Fraternity would provide my son.

Joining a Fraternity provides many benefits including:

  • Leadership Opportunities: 85% of students involved in Greek Life are also involved in Campus Leadership in another capacity

  • Sustained Friendships: finding lifelong Brothers with a wide array of interests and majors who provide a support system

  • Philanthropic Activities: opportunities for involvement in many different types of service projects

Is hazing allowed or encouraged?

No. The University of Southern California as well as Phi Delta Theta nationals have a strict anti-hazing guideline which we follow. While there is a pledge process in which a candidate will learn about Phi Delta Theta’s history, our mission/vision, and get to know the current Brothers, this program does not include or condone any form of hazing.

You can’t maintain a high GPA and be in a Fraternity, right?

Phi Delta Theta has an incredible focus on scholarship and has remained above the All Men’s Average GPA for the past 10+ years, not to mention having the highest Interfraternity Council GPA for the last two semesters. Being part of a fraternity actually provides more opportunity for scholastic collaboration and mentorship, which benefits us all.

I want to understand more about living in the house.

The House Corporation manages all live-in contracts and housing related questions. The House Corporation currently executes full Academic Year and Summer leases and they maintain pricing which is benchmarked at 5-10% below On Campus or Campus Adjacent properties. They expect the fraternity members to manage timely completion and filing of their housing contracts. Should you have any questions, they can be contacted via housecorp@uscphidelt.org.

Who is in charge?

The active Chapter elects individuals to officer positions who run the day-to-day operations. These officers are assisted by members serving on committees and by Alumni serving as advisors. The Chapter is also supported by the national organization, which offers support, advice, and direction through paid professional staff members and regional volunteers.

Parents Club.

Our Parents Club consists of dedicated Phi Delta Theta California Delta parents who help to coordinate activities throughout the year and fundraise in order to provide unparalleled experiences for the men of California Delta. Some of the initiatives which the Parents Club supports include:

  • Mother and Son Luncheon, hosted in collaboration with the Chapter

  • Family Weekend Activities

  • Finals Week Study Snacks

  • Senior Dinner / Send Off

The Parents Club is a volunteer organization which the Brothers of California Delta appreciate immensely! If you would like to get involved, please reach out to the current President, Debbie Shepherd, by emailing parentsclub@uscphidelt.org.
